SADSTARS Hello. I am doing a project in my global class on castles. The question I need answered is "what two economic advantages are there to having a castle?" I would appreciate it greatly if someone could tell me if they know any, and in a relatively timely manner. THANKS!

Levan Okay, it's the wrong forum, but speaking from personal experience - the advantages of owning a castle are measurable in practically every sphere EXCEPT economic!

Erik Schmidt Well Levan, you only have one person to blame for that!
Let me guess. You've gone soft on the peasantry, haven't you? I tell you, now that you have the defences up you have to ride out there and slay a few of them, burn a house or two.....you know, show em who's the boss and to whom they owe taxes.
And I guess you haven't kept the surrounding lords off their backs either have you? It helps if you at least pretend to provide safety for them. So get out there and burn the local member's office, with them inside preferably, and go find a tax man to throw in the bowels of a tower till he dies, then stake his body on the walls.
Go out there and use your permit to crennelate, make those swine pay thier dues to you!
Oh, and don't forget to take your share of any industry in the area. How dare they operate without your permission and blessing, bought in gold, ofcourse.
You might need to get yourself a couple of knights and a garrison of footmen for the inevitable backlash from the governing lords in the surroundings though. I hear the SAS/SWAT a quite good with a knife and can bring in some very effective battering rams.

Levan Think I'll leave the local peasantry alone - they're all rather nice actually. Now the tax man... mmm, could be tempting! Do you think I'd be rewarded for services to the community? As a matter of fact, one of my neighbours works for the tax office, and shes very nice too - humph, what am I to do?

levanne Got to agree with Levan I know a few nice tax people but owning a castle does make you a welsome addition to their neighbouhood.
